[Courant.com] 11/5/2009, West Hartford, CT -- "A Conard High School sophomore walking home after getting off the school bus Thursday afternoon told police she was accosted by a man who offered her candy."
"The incident occurred about 2:45 p.m. on South Quaker Lane near Boulevard, as the young woman walked home, said West Hartford police Chief James Strillacci."
"'There was a pedestrian going the other way which she describes as a male, about 5-feet-7, 17 or 18, with baggy shorts [and] a T-shirt,' Strillacci said. He had brown skin, short dark hair and spoke without an accent, the chief said."
"The man was carrying a bag of candy and offered the girl some. She refused and kept on walking. The man then grabbed her waist from behind."
"'She broke away, said 'leave me alone,' and walked away,' Strillacci said. The student told police she did not know the man and had never seen him before."
"Conard High School Principal Thomas Moore, in a letter to parents, urged them to remind their children that if confronted by a stranger they should remember the "three Rs" -- run, remember and report. The letter was also sent to the parents of children at other West Hartford schools."
"Strillacci said there's no indication the man was trying to abduct the woman, although his conduct was "unsettling to the young lady.""
"Anyone who witnessed anything around that time, or who has information about the incident, is asked to call West Hartford police at 860-523-5203"
