"In a letter to parents, Superintendent of Schools Matthew Malone said the West Middle School student was walking along Pearl Street Tuesday morning when a man drove up in a black BMW sedan and tried to pull her in."

"'Thankfully, the student's quick-thinking helped her to evade the attempted abductor and summon help from a neighbor,' Malone wrote."

"'The suspect is described as an African-American male with dreadlocks, dressed in a black hooded t-shirt and jeans.'"

"Police are patrolling both the morning and afternoon commutes looking for the man."

"Lt. John Crowley told the Brockton Enterprise it was an isolated incident, but they are treating it "very seriously.""

"The paper said the girl is 12-years-old. "
